A Local Guide to Enjoying the East Cesar Chavez District
The burgeoning E Cesar Chavez area seems to add a new outstanding bar or restaurant every month. Stretching due east of downtown, this transformation seems both inevitable and unlikely. Supplementing and supplanting the already outstanding selection of food trucks, taquerias and social clubs are sustainable nouveau restaurants, craft cocktail establishments, BBQ and boutique retailers. Most within walking distance of Atmosphere, here's a map with our selection of some local favorites.
East Austin's neighborhood cafe, serving up breakfast, lunch, coffee, dinner, and drinks. Head here on a good-weather day to enjoy their expansive patio options.
2. Bread Basket
Whether you need to grab a few quick groceries, or a personal item you forgot to pack for your travels, this corner store is a convenient spot to stop in at a moment's notice.
Wood-fired pizza in a cozy setting that may remind you of your favorite Italian city. Open for lunch and dinner, and always tasty.
4. East Side Tavern
Great spot to grab a beer in their expansive upstairs patio bar or relax downstairs as you peruse the bbq and sandwich selection.
5. Flat Track Coffee
A super hip coffee bar located within a bicycle repair shop, serving up craft coffee and beverages. The perfect spot to refuel, knock out a bit of work, or just grab high-quality locally-roasted coffee on your way to the office.
Touted as the best tacos in town, serving up authentic Mexican breakfast and lunch tacos of all varieties. Their migas taco is award-winning and will probably be the highlight of your week. Pro tip: be prepared to wait in line during peak hours. It's worth the wait!
7. East 1st Grocery
Great local grocery with an incredible beer selection. Stop here if you need to pick up a few quick essentials, or need to grab drinks to-go.
8. Weather Up
Swanky outdoor setting and fine craft cocktails. Manhattans or any of their "sophisticated" drink selections served over big ice with a wry smile.
9. Mr. Natural
Excellent spot for vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free eaters (or anyone really). They serve a great lunch plate special, and their chocolate gluten-free donuts are award winning, and a delicious way to finish your meal.
10. Stay Gold
Hang inside for great live music (lots of blues and good cover bands or a DJ playing some fun tunes) or cozy up in one of the converted containers outside, this is a go-to for the trendy East sider.
Converted from the previous Cap's Social Club, this fine cocktail and beer establishment now features a Poke trailer as well. Check out the mural in the back for a bit of east side history.

Dive bar feel with nice front porch. Play some pool and hang with friends.
13. Quickie Pickie
Hip cafe + grocery store with a patio, serving up local beer, coffee, and tasty La Barbecue eats. Stop by to grab health food snacks to-go, a quick drink, or make it an adventure and wait in line for some of the best BBQ in town.
14. La Barbecue
Now serving from the Quickie Pickie. Is it worth the wait? Depends on what's important that day. If you have an emotional relationship with ribs, answer is likely yes.
Bridging the accessible and trendy. Burger rated one of the best in all the land. Impress a client. Grab a drink at the bar.
16. East Side Pita
Located in the east end food truck park, this has some of the most authentic shawarma and falafel around. Open for lunch and dinner.
17. Lucky Belly
Thai food truck serving up authentic fresh thai favorites. Whether you like curries or fried rice, Lucky Belly has you covered.
18. Capital City Bakery
Award-winning local bakery preparing all-vegan treats including cupcakes, brownies, and special-occasion cakes.
19. Juan In A Million
Get a hearty handshake from Juan. Order a Don Juan if you've earned it. Solid tacos and lunch. Long lines are a nice place to socialize on the weekend.

Grab a vegan taco from this food truck in the Soma Vida courtyard.
21. Counter Culture
Your comfort food vegan connection. Great salads, sandwiches and more all in a comfortable funky vibe. Sit on the porch with a tea or grab a beer at the bar as well.
Business(wo)man's lunch! Tacos are great. Bay area oysters shucked just for you. Buy some fish while you're at it.
Sharing a courtyard with Atmosphere, this Mediterranean inspired delight packs a fine dining experience. Share the puffy potatoes to start.
24. Blue Owl Brewing
Sour beer for those who didn't know they liked sour beer (and definitely for those that know they do). Grab a flight to sample all the varieties and get a tour of the brewery while you're at it.
Get your healthy fix on on with this local favorite. A limited food menu in addition to healthy juices and smoothies. The Originator tastes like peanut butter and jelly.
26. Bento Picnic
$10 bento boxes and catering options available as well. Great quality and selection. Picnic tables on the lawn make it feel like lunch in the park.
27. Southside Flying Pizza
Don't let the name fool you...it's just down the road on Cesar Chavez. Great for order in or take out. Solid pizza all the way around.
28. Pitchfork Pretty
Southern eats with an emphasis on seasonal & locally-sourced ingredients in eco-modern surrounds. Very hip new spot.
29. Tacos Guerrero
A favorite for breakfast tacos. Just do this one. You'll be glad you did. Hint: cash only.
30. Kemuri Tatsu-Ya
Central Texas meets Tokyo in this gem of dining experience. Funky and refined it's quickly become on the more popular places in town.
31. Lustre Pearl East
The original house on Rainey Street was transplanted to Linden St and now stands as one of the signposts that you've made it to the middle of the east side. Fun outdoor patio, ping pong table and good eats to boot.
